My turn again. I get lots of turns at choosing to go hiking rather than my second favourite of Cycling in Europe, mostly because I score a lot of brownie points when “allow” Ian to go to the National Tennis Championships in different capital city each year, Fishing at Fraser Island, Boating to the Barrier Reef to name a few of his exploits.
This year I’ve chosen the GR10 in the Pyrenees. It’s a long walk from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean along the Pyrenees, a high mountain massive lying along the border between France and Spain. I’ve selected the middle section, the High Pyrenees, because the walks at either end are a little less mountainous with less spectacular views (in my opinion) and being lower, are much hotter for walking.
We plan to fly into Paris, catch a TGV from Paris to Pau, then a local train from Pau to Bedous where we will start our hike. Bedous is a day’s walk to Lescun on the GR10 where we’ll spend a few days in this pretty village before setting off on a 300k walk to Bagneres de Luchon, often called just Luchon.
