Life is busy with four grandkids and another two the way. My days of 6 months planning for a hiking trip are over. It’s fun, and not a chore. In fact I love the planning almost as much as the hiking. My Cicerone guide book, The Alderweg by Mike Wells was a good starting point however 4 of the days in the middle of the walk were around Innsbruck and whilst this is a wonderful place to visit, I’d been there twice before and thought it would be nice to do a small deviation across the border to Germany and visit the area around Garmisch Parten Kirchen. This place hosted the Winter Olympics of 1936, the year when Berlin hosted the Summer Olympics. It was also the place where Eddie the Eagle trained for the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, and where the “Eddie” movie was predominantly filmed.
