Vie from the Bell Tower Ypres

Since deciding to do this cycling trip to France Germany and Switzerland, I'd been researching my family history on my father's side. I'm a Morgan.  And I managed to trace the Morgans beyond John Morgan, my convicte Great Great Grandfather, to Hereford and a number of villages around Herefordshire where he was convicted of sheep stealing in 1834 and transported to Australia on the Lady Nugent (1) in 1835.

If you're interested in the Morgan Family History (an no hard feelings if you're not), here's the link to the book so far.

Morgan Family History

A trip to the home country seemed like a good idea, particularly as we were just across the channel in France.  After more planning and booking, I thought it easy and quick to take the Eurostar from Brussels to London and then train to Hereford after leaving Ypres.

This was easier said than done with two bikes and baggage to take with us. But after some late night phone calls to the UK, we were soon booked on the Eurostar with bike reservations, each costing just as much as a seat for us, and the Hereford train where the bikes travelled for free.
