This leg of the journey is mostly the GR5 and is the start of the very high Alps, with few villages and only refuges between bigger towns. It means we will have to carry some supplies - the usual bread chefs tomatoes and dried ham - just in case. It is an exciting few days as we will be climbing to a height of 25000 metres. The next stage from Modane to Landry, the high alp passes are closer to 3000 metres so this will be a good test. With a poor snowfall this recent winter and temperatures of 30°C for the past few days and expected to continue, we should have no trouble with deep snow patches blocking the way.
