The Saint's Way Trail follows a varied course through valleys, woodlands, pastures, moors and villages. It reveals the most varied and beautiful scenery in the county. All inhabited by countless species of flora and fauna. The surrounding countryside includes rolling pastures of ancient farmland with pre-historic remains, ancient bridges, old tracks, churches and pretty villages all to be seen.
The Saints' Way Trail crosses mid-Cornwall from the northern harbour town of Padstow to the southern port of Fowey. It covers approximately 30 miles/48 Km, though there are variations along the way to seek accommodation stopovers.
The route starts at Padstow harbour and heads south through Little Petherick, St Breock Downs and Lanivet. The trail then joins the Fowey River near Lostwithiel. You then walk along the river before reaching Fowey. A shorter route is available through the Tywardreath site of a medieval monastic settlement. But I chose the longer route via Helman Tor.
