I don’t have my usual pack horse (Ian) to carry my 1kg of cheese, 400g gas can and 500ml extra water for my coffee plus the Jetboil cooker, so reluctantly I intend to leave my 1.5kg computer, cables and charger in Newquay while I hike, making my total back pack weight less than 7kg. This included a 300g sleeping sheet which I need for the first night on the Saint’s way in Ruthernbridge where I booked a holiday glamping sleeping pod with just a bare mattress. Luckily Andrew, the manager of the Ruthernbridge Holiday Camping site has offered to hire me a doona for £5, then I can ditch the sleeping sheet the next day.
I still intend to have my morning coffees but with a much lighter MSR Pocket Rocket instead of a Jetboil, with a tiny 70g titanium Toaks pot for boiling water. It didn’t quite work out to be a light 7kg after dding dates, biscuits, nuts and a loaf of Sainsbury’s bread!
