Hiking 700k from Avignon to Mont Blanc May 29th to July 12th 2012
The BackPack
We, as in I, have spent the past 2 months planning every last detail of our 7 week trip to France. As we intend walking about 700km over 38 days (an average of about 20k per day), it's really important to go lite so out come the kitchen scales and every thing from undies (35g) to Zovirax (5g) is weighed and reweighed. Of course all my calculations were thrown into disarray when Ian gave me a beautiful MacBook Air for mothers day.
A short 10k walk one Sunday afternoon with loaded backpacks saw us both return and chuck out half the stuff - 2 pair of undies not 3. A tee shirt that weighs 68g not 108g. I managed to shed 1.5kg, just enough to replace the weight of extra shirts, creams, gels, undies and socks with my Mac computer. Of course Chester had been aware for few weeks now that something was going on - he knew we were going off somewhere and spent hours sniffing and sitting amongst the stuff laying all over the bedroom floor.
